Just a guess, but if the filter hasn't be replaced in a long time it would be a good idea to change it either way. It may be that it is partially clogged, and oil will not easily flow through it unless the oil gets heated (and thinned) to the point where it will flow past a partially plugged filter more easily. Oil temp seems to play at least some role in power transfer, affecting torque converter efficiency and/or clutch pack lockup.Īnd if both your safety filter and the suction filter are ok, you may want to replace (and check) your transmission oil paper cartridge filter. 1977 Case 850B crawler, Cab ROPS heater, 82 Hp, power shift, 8 Ft Hyd 6 way dozer with new corner bits, 5 barrel ripper with 3 shanks, 20 inch pads, 5,050 Hr. I just got a Case 850D dozer to use for some field maintenance. When I returned it fired up normal and everything came up as it should but when I shifted forward- nothing, reverse- nothing. I think my problem was mostly attributable to low oil level and the tilt of the machine, but on the other hand as the oil temp went up things definitely starting happening as far as torque transfer.
